As the old saying goes, “the way you start your day determines how you live your whole day”…
If you start the day feeling negative, chances are you’ll make some bad decisions. These decisions could impact small or large areas of your life, and if repeated over time, could mount up to create devastating results.
It might seem a little dramatic to tie large negative results in your life to the way you start your day, but everything has a foundational level. As usual, my approach is to address things at their roots, so that they can grow into something positive and helpful.
I’d rather you solve problems for good, instead of having to make frequent adjustments after each “fail”. Shouldn’t the idea be to not “fail” at all?
As they say, “a mistake made once is progress, a mistake made twice is laziness”. Or something like that 😉
So, as you may have guessed, this blog post is going to be about YOUR morning routine. We’re going to address the way in which you start your day, so that you can optimise your mindset to perform at its best, ensuring that the rest of your day goes well.
Now, there’ll be hiccups, things won’t always go to plan, BUT starting your day with a positive mindset will make any setback easier to deal with. It’s a win-win situation.
Have a quick think about what you do each morning, and be truly honest with yourself. Do you think that your morning routine sets you up with a positive attitude?
You’d be surprised at how common it is for people to neglect their wellbeing in the mornings. Most often there’s a reluctance to get out of bed, a mad rush to get ready and maybe eat breakfast, to then rush off to work or drop the kids to school, and so on…
Starting most days in that way is bad news, as you’re missing out on the vibrancy and positivity you could be adding to your life.
Your morning routine should consist of items that do the following:
- Clear your mind of repetitive negative thoughts
- Make you feel comfortable, clean, and healthy
- Help you to wake up fully so that you’re not half asleep making decisions
Most of what you need to start the day right is in that small list…
Let’s take a look at what you could fill into your morning routine to satisfy the points on the above list:
Meditation: Meditation helps us to clear our minds of negative thoughts. If you have trouble meditating, you can follow guided meditations on apps such as Headspace, or search through the many thousands of options on YouTube. Search for something to do with positive thinking and stress-relief.
Exercise: Some light exercise will help you to feel healthy in the mornings. You don’t have to go mad, some press-ups, sit-ups, aerobics or jumping jacks for a few minutes will do! Something to get the heart going.
Shower: I shouldn’t need to tell you to wash in the morning 😉 But a shower will help you to wake up and feel comfortable in your own skin. You could also switch the shower water to “cold only” for 15-30 seconds at the end of your shower to FULLY wake up!
Breakfast: I know not all people eat breakfast, we all follow our own diet plans. However, if you do eat breakfast, try to make it something healthy. It’s easy to grab a packet of sugar filled biscuits or cereal, but try some fruit or oats instead. This will help you to feel happy, healthy and vibrant at the start of your day.
Now I’m sure you can agree that these points won’t take long, and there aren’t many of them. In fact, most people do something in these areas each morning already, but with a few tweaks they could vastly improve their sense of wellness and positivity.
If you feel as though you don’t have the time to do all these things, simply wake up 20-30 minutes earlier each day! It’s worth it so that you can start your day in a way that will bring out the best in you. Also, wouldn’t you like to feel more positive in the day? You owe it to yourself.

Overall, through editing your morning routine with the areas I spoke about today, you’ll be able to optimise your mindset for maximum performance. It’ll make you feel better, happier, and more compassionate to those around you.
